Get in Line for Macy’s Chefs A-Go-Go

For one night only, a fine meal served by a local celebrity — all for a good cause.

We know what you’re thinking: if only there was a food truck promotion coming to Seattle soon. Is tomorrow soon enough?

After a cross-country trek that began in June, Macy’s Chefs A-Go-Go will arrive in our fair city on Thursday, Sept. 1. For three calorie-filled hours, the retailer’s first-ever mobile food tour will engage its parking brake at the Seattle Center to serve up hot meals for hungry city-dwellers. This traveling show is the brainchild of Macy’s Culinary Council (MCC), a nationwide assembly of expert chefs who strive to share the gift of great food with the rest of the country.

Representing MCC at the Seattle stop will be none other than superstar chef, restaurateur and cookbook author Tom Douglas. With more than 30 years in the food biz, Douglas has been instrumental in putting Seattle on the foodie map, as well as advocating the use of locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients. His establishments include Dahlia Lounge, Palace Kitchen and Lola, just to name a few.

Best of all, Seattleites who wait in line will be rewarded with a complimentary serving. That’s right — for just a little patience, you’ll receive a free plate of delicious food that has been prepared by a local culinary icon. If they so choose, patrons who receive their free helping may support Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States. For every dollar that’s donated to the food truck, Feeding America will provide seven meals to those in need through local food banks.

The Macy’s Chefs A-Go-Go truck will be parked at the Bumbershoot — Visual Arts Exhibit Preview site and open for business between 5 and 8 p.m., so Seattleites may want to queue up early. If you’re unable to make it tomorrow, the food truck’s next stop will be the Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Ore. on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
