Seattle-born comedian Rainn Wilson has been acting since 1997, when he debuted on One Life To Live. Since then, he has appeared in supporting roles for films such as Galaxy Quest, Almost Famous and Juno, and TV series like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Entourage and Six Feet Under. However, most know the actor from his role as the devious, perpetually concerned Dwight Schrute from NBC’s comedy mega-hit, The Office.
On Saturday, Nov. 19, Wilson is scheduled to host a comedy and music event at the Paramount Theatre — and he’s bringing along some accomplices. The actor will be joined onstage by fellow Office alum Mindy Kaling, comic Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation), singer/guitarist Andy Grammer, Colin Meloy (frontman of The Decemberists), Seattle punk outfit Visqueen and real-life superhero Phoenix Jones, as well as a few unannounced guests.
Best of all, this weekend’s entertainment is for a good cause. All proceeds from the show will go to Mona Foundation, a Seattle-based non-profit organization that supports universal education and promotes a positive image of women and girls throughout the world — two cornerstones of the Bahai faith, of which Wilson is a devout member.
“What gets me so excited about [Mona Foundation] is it’s not some charity going into a place and saying ‘We’re going to build a road here or a school here or a soccer field here,'” the actor told NBC News. “They go in very sensitively and look for things that are already working and then lend their financial support … whether it’s an orphanage in the Amazon, a school for native Indian speakers in Panama or a girl’s school in Tanzania. … There’s no infrastructure to it, so literally 97 percent of your money goes directly to support these initiatives.”
Doors to Saturday’s event will open at 7 p.m., and the show is scheduled to begin one hour later. Tickets are available online; a Price A ticket ($51.25) includes admission to a meet-and-greet with the performers after the show.
