“I’ll wear your granddad’s clothes, I’ll look incredible.”
In case you were sleeping under a rock last week, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis brought sexy back in your grandparent’s clothes. Their video for “Thrift Shop” features a shopping spree at local secondhand stores and cameos from other popular local acts.
Within the first day of release, the video reached half a million views on YoutTube and the song hit top 5 on iTunes’ Hip Hop chart within hours. On top of that, they already sold out some California and European show dates on their world tour promoting their upcoming album, “The Heist,” set to release in early October.
Even if you’re not in the know with Seattle’s buzzing Hip Hop scene, you’ve probably encountered the emcee and producer at some point. From the cover of City Arts Magazine to the set at King5’s New Day Northwest morning show, and even on the big screen at Safeco Field for Mariners’ opening night, the DIY (do it yourself) artists are living like rockstars (and probably wearing the hand-me-downs of some, too.)
Catch Macklemore & Ryan Lewis while you can. They play WaMu Theater October 12.
