Music Madness: Pickwick

Support local band Pickwick when the ball drops at the Showbox Market.

Pickwick

With the Office of Film + Music on the fast track to get more locals interested and listening to the talented artists we have right here in Seattle, we like to do our part and feature a budding local in the industry once in a while too.

Pickwick originally began back in 2008 as a duo, with singer Galen Disston belting the lyrics along to his guitar, and drummer Matt Emmett creating a nice beat in the background. Down the road they acquired some of Emmett’s friends to get down on the keyboard, vibraphone, bass and guitar and before they knew it the 6 piece band was booking gigs across Seattle.

By 2010 they we’re remaining mostly under the radar, and decided to abandon their previous style. Starting from scratch, everyone began taking part in the writing, design, and execution of each song from start to finish.

Gaining inspiration from UK bands, Gospel, and 50’s blues, the band created their own interpretation of how today’s garage band turned pop should sound, and the rest is history. Their first album that put them on the map Myths, was a series of self released 7 inches that the band now considers somewhat of their first mix-tape, and by the time each track was released they were playing at venues like the Neptune, and gaining the popularity they’d been hoping for. Their latest record will be released later in 2013, and they’re ringing in the new year with a bang at the Showbox Market, alongside Portland’s Radiation City and fellow poppy Seattle quartet Tomten.
