PNB puts its own spin on Shakespeare’s masterpiece.

Craving a little romance, some spectacular dancing, or a combo of the two? You’re in luck. The Pacific Northwest Ballet brings its contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy to McCaw Hall February 1 through 10. According to The Seattle Times: “It’s a remarkable work…like no ‘Romeo and Juliet’ ballet you’ve seen before: It’s intricate, often achingly beautiful, and never simply pretty.”

Featuring choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot and music by Sergei Prokofiev, the production delights audiences here in Seattle before heading to New York City for east coast shows February 15 and 16.

In January 2008, PNB was the first American company to perform Maillot’s Roméo et Juliette when it came to Seattle for its west coast premiere. (This three-act interpretation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece had premiered in 1996 by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, where Maillot is resident choreographer and artistic director.)

Former PNB principal dancers Noelani Pantastico and Lucien Postlewaite return to reprise their celebrated title roles during one performance –Saturday night, February 9. Pantastico and Postlewaite are now members of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo under the artistic directorship of Maillot.
