Food Porn: Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar

In this edition of Food Porn, we feature Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar, owned by the renowned Chef John Howie. With two locations — one in Bellevue downtown and one in Westlake, an elegant seafood dining experience awaits. From fresh oysters to sushi and cooked seafood entrees, Seastar has something for everyone.

The Chef Tasting Menu is more than reasonable for the amount and quality of food at $75 with five full courses. An additional $39 for wine pairing. Copper River Sockeye Crudo to start with avocado and meyer lemon. The flavors were light and fresh, with a crunchy, salty black Hawaiian sea salt finish. The Atlantic Diver Scallops are seared nicely and come on a fluffy polenta souffle, with prosciutto crisps and bitter popcorn shoots.

The Seared Alaskan Halibut is served over a morel and English pea risotto, perfect for a summer meal. The Filet Mignon is served with porchini mushrooms, individually baked potatoes au gratin, with a luscious veal glace. Mark Ryan’s Columbia Valley Merlot pairs nicely with this rich and earthy dish. Lastly, dessert is a dense Cheesecake baked with dehydrated strawberries, a rhubarb compote and a campari sugar puff (a fancy name for cotton candy). It’s beautiful and whimsical and pairs deliciously with a late harvest Gewurtztraminer dessert wine.

Though the Chef Tasting with Wine Pairing was a wonderful dining experience, ordering a la carte off the menu would result in an equally satisfying meal as well.

Lunch is offered Monday through Friday 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Dinner is served Monday through Saturday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Sunday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Raw Bar is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to closing and on the weekends from 5:00 pm to closing. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
