Unlock the front door, turn on the lights, set your wake-up alarm, and even get some tea ready before you get home – all from your smartphone.
A few months ago I got invited by AT&T to come hang out at a house in Capitol Hill. The house belonged to one of their marketing executives. It was a pretty modest looking house situated on a narrow windy street in the neighborhood. There would probably be cheese and wine. What I didn’t expect was MTV Cribs style tour on high-speed internet.
With Digital Life installed you feel like you’re living in a futuristic home customized especially for you. It makes sense, with smartphones becoming more intuitive and our devices becoming more and more connected to our everyday life, why wouldn’t we expect our house to be just as customizable and offer solutions to help us do our usual tasks more efficiently.
That’s why Digital Life is more than just a home security system. During the tour I was expecting someone to tell me that the home security system featured your own personal SWAT team or something, but it’s how you choose to use your security features that make Digital Life different from your standard idea of keeping the intruders out.
AT&T Digital Life is an all-digital, IP-based home security monitoring service. Yes, the cops will be called if the robbers try to break in – but now let’s get to the fun stuff. Think about the other things we think about when we’re away from our home: What’s the dog doing? How can I save on the heating bill while I’m gone? Did grandma get out of bed okay?
With the remote access feature you can stay connected to your home from virtually anywhere, survailence cameras allow you to see what’s going on in your house while you’re away. You can even unlock the door remotely from your smartphone, tablet, or PC to let someone in and lock the door behind them when they leave.
The Energy Package lets you control appliances, lighting and thermostats, so you can schedule the heater to start an hour before you get home so that you’ll have a cozy house to get back to. The Water Package will even detect a leak in the house.
There are a lot of features that you can mix and match, so you can think about how much you would pay for convenience. AT&T Digital Life is available in selected cities throughout the U.S. and locally in Seattle in various neighborhoods. Customers can use their existing home broadband provider, and any wireless phone service.
