Chaco Canyon has three locations in University District, West Seattle, and Greenwood. Chaco Canyon collaborates with farms in Washington every month for their fresh products. The menu offers a selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items that are vegan and often gluten-free.
The bakery case has an assortment of treats, from pie to cookies to brownies and croissants. This is the only place in the city that you’ll be able to find gluten-free croissants. The Coconut Cream Pie (GF) has an amazing crust. While the filling is not quite the as airy as traditional coconut cream pie, it’s still creamy and not overly sweet. The Black Sesame Cupcake was delicious and while it’s closer to the texture of a muffin, the acai frosting will definitely appease your sweet tooth.
SEATTLEITE MUST-ORDER: Sweet potato biscuits and gravy.
BREAKFAST+BRUNCH: The Yogurt Parfait with cultured coconut creme, topped with buckwheat cereal and fruit will not make you miss animal products. For those who are dairy-free, this is a healthy, yet indulgent dessert-like snack or breakfast. It’s creamy and tart, with a hint of sweetness from the fruit and crunch from the cereal.
French Toast (GF) still maintains the essence of french toast, while being vegan and gluten-free. The tempeh “bacon” on the side is smoky and crunchy and while it doesn’t taste like pork fat, it’s a good side. The Sweet Potato Biscuits with mushroom (vegan) gravy are crazy, ridiculously good. They are light and moist and we polished them off, quickly.
Breakfast is served all day and it’s satisfying without leaving you in a food coma. Most brunch places that are butter and gluten-laden recipes (that are tasty, but also a recipe for a nap). Menu items include an eggless quiche, tofu veggie scramble, french toast, and chia pudding.
You can choose a bowl on their menu, like the Quinoa, Yam & Kale Bowl or the Thai Peanut Bowl or you can “Build Your Own Bowl” (3 items + sauce for 7.95 or 5 items + sauce for 10.95). The Hippie Bowl we had included baked tofu, quinoa, carrots, sprouts, and was topped with sesame seeds and drizzled with housemade garlic tahini sauce. The bowls make a healthy lunch, dinner, or mid-day snack. Sandwiches range from Lentil Burgers to Artichoke Melts and Raw Pesto Avocado Arugula Sandwich. They also serve soups and salads.
SMOOTHIES: The smoothie bar features creative combinations and custom smoothies and range from 695 to 7.95. Milk options include dairy, soy, rice, and almond. “The Elvis” has bananas and peanut butter for an indulgent milkshake-like experience or try something healthier, like the “Really Green” with seasonal dark greens, banana, and apple juice. We loved the Cherry Almond Smoothie with Tonnemaker Farm cherries, banana, maple, almonds, and almond milk.
We will be back, over and over again.
