Tom Douglas’ 2016 Lawn Party & Croquet Tournament Event Registration Opens

Tom Douglas and his flagship restaurant Dahlia Lounge are excited to announce that tickets are now available for the 2016 Lawn Party & Croquet Tournament. In its fifth year, this event is open to the public and will be held on Sunday, August 14 at the South Lake Union Discovery Center. A benefit for Food Lifeline, this year’s event looks to surpass last year’s fundraising goal of $100,000. With support from generous sponsors and from croquet teams and spectator tickets, the event hopes to raise over $150,000.

For over 30 years, Douglas and his businesses have worked closely with Food Lifeline, a local hunger relief organization, in an effort to feed those in need in Western Washington. An estimated 40% of food produced in America goes to waste – enough to feed every person in the country twice over. Food Lifeline ensures that millions of pounds of food feed more than 750,000 people each year, by collecting nutritious food from restaurants, grocery stores, farmers and manufacturers and delivering to 275 food banks, emergency shelters and meal programs across Western Washington.

Despite all these efforts, thousands of Washington residents continue to go hungry every day. Food Lifeline has reached full capacity in its two current facilities and is well on its way in a capital campaign to build a new, more efficient facility. In 2016, Tom Douglas decided to kick off a company-wide “Year of Giving” initiative, to aid the $34 million campaign for the building of the Hunger Solution Center, an expanded facility to amplify their fight to end hunger in Western Washington.

“Our business model has always been built on the motto Deliciousness Served with Graciousness,” says Chef Tom Douglas.  “We are excited to have created this signature event to bring our employees and customers together in camaraderie and competition for a more than worthy cause.”

Croquet teams are made up of six people who speed-play their way through themed croquet courts, each hosted by a different Tom Douglas restaurant. The fastest team wins the ultimate tasting tour of our restaurants, bragging rights and an awesome trophy. It’s an afternoon of fun with great food, drinks, and costumes – this is one event you don’t want to miss!
