Celebrating the 10th Annual Cycle the WAVE event!

Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere) is a fully supported, non-competitive, deluxe all-women’s event. It is a spectacular bike and walk event for women of all ages and fitness levels to experience camaraderie, increase awareness of domestic violence through visibility, and to raise funds for domestic violence programs across Washington State.

Going behind the scenes of one of the world’s most admirable professions.

Sometimes we forget that there are so many heroes in our midst—folks quietly going about daily duties that save lives and positively impact our immediate community and the world beyond. These hardworking souls are brave, wise, kind, humble and stronger than often seems humanly possible.

We recently spoke with one such Seattleite—Jodie David, a nurse in the Supportive and Palliative Care service at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. We are so grateful for her work and wanted to share her story with you.

Pike Brewing Company just announced the sixth annual Women In Beer, benefiting Planned Parenthood of The Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands on May 8th. Pike Morning After Pale is the official beer of Women In Beer and you can only get it for a limited time. You’ll be able to find it on draft in May and June and possibly into Julyget it while you can!

Honoring local do-gooders like the Bartell family at a “Denim to Diamonds” downtown bash.

With the New Year—and the political climate increasingly disconcerting—there seems no better time to celebrate those among us who make do-gooding missions a regular practice. In 1996, The Seattle Hotel Association created the “Evening of Hope” gala to showcase those who make a difference in the community. Over the past 19 years, proceeds (totaling more than $5.6 million) have benefited dozens of local charities by leveraging the collective strength of 58 downtown member hotels.

Creating a level playing field for all.

If ever we’re feeling down about the affairs of the world, it helps to look toward the do-gooders who carry an optimism that affects us, too. We can’t help it; it’s contagious. We recently caught up with one such local—Kirby Winfield, Auction Chair and Board Chair Elect for Special Olympics Washington.
