This Labor Day Weekend, Bumbershoot celebrates 46 years!

Treefort Music Festival just passed, Sasquatch is coming up at The Gorge next month, Capitol Hill Block Party just announced its lineup for July, and Bumbershoot tickets are on sale! The early bird sale is almost over, so make sure to get your tickets before prices go up! This year, the event will be held Friday through Sunday of Labor Day Weekend instead of Saturday through Monday in past years. This is an awesome shift so we will have Sunday to rest and recover before heading back to work/school on Tuesday!

One of the many things this Misplaced Texan misses from the Lone Star State is some good ol’ barbeque. So it is no wonder that when I caught the smell of barbeque wafting through the air in my neighborhood, I followed it like a classic Bugs Bunny cartoon when he is physically compelled to float in midair toward a delicious meal.  Then I saw it: a tiny log cabin of a trailer known as the “Campfire Chuck Wagon” parked adjacent to Lower Queen Anne’s Citizen Café and Bar on the corner of Taylor Avenue North and Roy Street, just north of Mercer Street.

Taste Washington returned last weekend with four exciting days of tastings, experiences, eating, learning and more from March 31st – April 3rd. It is the largest single-region wine and food event in the United States and attracted thousands of wine and food enthusiasts to the Seattle area. Over 225 Washington wineries, 65 restaurants, local and national chefs, were a part of Taste Washington weekend. We had the chance to attend the Grand Tasting at CenturyLink Field Event Center on Sunday.

Madison’s quintessential pizza is now available on the hill.

Ian’s Pizza on the Hill opened last fall and offers pizza by the slice, whole pies, delivery, and beer and wine. Located in Zpizza’s old location on Broadway, this smaller chain or “pizza collective” from Madison, Wisconsin is taking familiar ingredients—not commonly used as toppings—and creating new and delicious pizzas. They also offer gluten-free and vegan options.

On Saturday, April 23, Seattle Milk Fund will host its annual Benefit Dinner & Live Auction at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center in the heart of Downtown Seattle’s Waterfront. In addition to a new venue, the 2016 event will unveil a new theme. Seattle Milk FUNd, will be a festive fête with a larger live auction and carnival-inspired games. Proceeds go towards Seattle Milk Fund in building stronger communities through access to child care and family support. Please RSVP by Friday, April 8, 2016.

The world’s first environmentally conscious nose-to-tail pig competition.

In its seventh year, this live-culinary event raises awareness for the responsible farming of heritage breed pigs through eating and drinking. Eating for a cause has never tasted so good. The weekend begins with charity dinners on Friday and Saturday followed by the head-to-toe, nationally celebrated Cochon555 at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Five chefs compete with five heritage breed pigs in a friendly competition for a cause. The food is hyper-local; eating for a cause has never tasted so good. 

We put together a list of runs and walks happening in and around the Seattle area in April and May. This isn’t an exhaustive list; there are many more happening every weekend. Everyone is welcome to these participate in these events, no matter your ability. You can run, jog, or walk. Grab some friends, make a playlist, and get outside! Stay active and fit while having fun and contributing to a good cause. 

Raise a pint and support Seattle Milk Fund families! $1 from every pint of beer sold during Reuben’s Brews’ Thank You Thursdays event on April 7th will benefit Seattle Milk Fund’s Child Care and Family Support Program. In addition, Reuben’s Brews will release a limited-edition beer, Seattle Milk Stout, in honor of Seattle Milk Fund. Additionally, $5 from each keg sold to local bars will also be donated to Seattle Milk Fund.
