Food Porn: RylieCakes

Gluten-free; equally delicious.

In this edition of Food Porn, we feature RyliesCakes, located inside Makers’ Mercantile, a pinterester’s dream crafting store with a wide selection of yarn, buttons, and other crafting supplies. Owned and run by Rylie Haack, she has created a menu full of delicious gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan desserts. Rylie and her team of pastry chefs strive to make everything in-house as well bring in many of their products from local farms.

I didn’t hear about RylieCakes until my very thoughtful coworker, Nikki, knowing I’m lactose-intolerant, (Yes, my life is quite sad without ice cream and cheese) did some research to track down dairy free treats for my birthday. As a baker myself, I am fairly picky about dessert. However, I single-handedly inhaled about 80% of the treats meant for the entire office. Many surpassed their full-of-dairy-and-gluten counterparts. I knew I had to make a visit to the bakery ASAP.

White Chocolate Cranberry Ginger Bars are a classic blondie topped with white chocolate, chopped cranberries, and candied ginger. Coconut Lime Bars are gluten and dairy free and dare I say, somewhat of a healthy treat — made with cashew-agave crust and coconut lime center, this is your health-conscious dessert. Gluten and dairy free, the Peanut Butter Cookies are melt-in-your-mouth good. Full of peanut butter goodness with a rich crunchy exterior and a soft, chewy interior, you’ll want more than one.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Bar makes me want to sing the “It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time” song while I’m eating it. Gooey, rich peanut butter filling with a layer of jelly and a cookie crust, this is quite the treat. Chocolate Cake with chocolate frosting and raspberry filling is decadent and very moist. Whether or not you are gluten free/dairy free/vegan (but especially if you are), you need to visit!
