Modern Korean fusion at Pike Place Market.
In this edition of Food Porn, we visited Chan Seattle in the Market, featuring a twist on traditional Korean cuisine. We’ve stopped in for happy hour before a show several times, but hadn’t had the chance to experience the full dinner menu. From ahi tuna and painted hills tenderloin to seafood pancakes, deep fried oysters, and kimchi pork belly, it’s an elevated Korean food experience.

The Chicken Wings are featured on the happy hour for $6 [a larger version is offered à la carte on the dinner menu] and are a must-order. They are coated with a spicy chili caramel glaze and served with a side of pickled daikon. They have a crispy, crunchy exterior while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. Some of the best wings we have had in a long while.
Other happy hour must-order dishes:
- Fried Rice Cakes $3
- Spicy Pork Sliders $6
- Bulgolgi Beef Sliders $6
The Braised Short Rib with fingerling potatoes, rice cakes and pearl onions is rich and flavorful, but a little on the dry side (or we needed more sauce?). The Chicken Fried Rice with chicken confit, perlla (Korean version of shiso leaves), rice cake, kimchi, and topped with a fried egg. Everyone about this dish was awesome, except for the chicken. Unfortunately, it was on the dry side as well—reminiscent of the meat you get at a run-of-the-mill Thai restaurant.

Overall, we recommend coming in for happy hour, which provides the best value and allows you to try many different dishes.
Open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. Happy hour is 5:00 to 6:30 pm.
