A whole food menu that tastes good and makes you feel good too.

Sweetgrass Food Co. has partnered with local producers and suppliers to serve local, sustainable and (mostly) organic foods. Everything is made from scratch, in house. The best part is that they serve something for everyone: from sustainable, hormone and antibiotic free meat and dairy, to vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-restriction options. Sweetgrass is located in Westlake and they’re planning to open a second location in Pioneer Square later this year.

Super Six is inspired by its location in a former auto body shop on Hudson Street in Columbia City. It’s the sixth concept by the Marination team, which includes Marination’s food truck Big Blue, Marination Station, Marination ma kai (on Alki Beach—my favorite Marination concept), Marination catering, and their home base commissary. Along with a full cocktail bar and beer garden, the menu at Super Six focuses on Asian flavors complementing American comfort food and Pacific Northwest staples.

There’s been an ongoing theme at Seattleite with stories covering travel destinations and weekend getaways in an effort to escape the grey backdrop of Seattle during the winter months. Even though I’ve lived here my entire life, the dark, rainy months between late November and May can be hard to bear. Hawaii is one of my favorite vacations because you’re still in the United States, but it feels like a complete escape.

The World is Fun (TWIF) is a Seattle based nonprofit organization with a mission to get Seattleites involved in their community. Working in partnership with over 70 Seattle based nonprofit organizations, TWIF engages the community in volunteering and giving back in a fun and social way. This local social club is 100% volunteer-run and has given back $1 million in Volunteer Service Value to the Seattle area. We recently had the chance to interview the fabulous lady who started TWIF in 2009, Amy Faulkner.

It’s the 20th anniversary of Capitol Hill Block Party (CHBP), which is scheduled for July 22-24 this summer. Today, the first wave of confirmed performers were announced, which include Scottish indie-pop band CHVRCHES, experimental electro-pop group Crystal Castles, and local electronic duo ODESZA. You know it’s summer when the streets in the heart of Capitol Hill are blocked off and flooded by Seattleites. Good vibes, good music, and good weather are what makes CHBP an event to catch every year.

Heavy Restaurant Group’s latest restaurant, Meet the Moon, opened two weeks ago in the heart of Leschi. The concept is to be an inviting and informal neighborhood gathering place with casual, but thoughtful and flavorful food. Meet the Moon gets started early in the morning, offering espresso and coffee from local Olympia Coffee Roasting Company as well as a nice selection of housemade pastries and breakfast items—all available to go.

Winter months in Seattle bring a great deal of grey skies, drizzly rain, and an all-around dampened mood. We do get a few nice days here and there (Monday and Tuesday this week), but it isn’t enough to get us through the whole season. Here are some tips for maintaining health and wellness until we get to summer. Put good stuff in your body and keep active!

Our neighboring state of Idaho is a little big state that feels like living on the frontier—and it’s an exciting time on the frontier. Downtown Boise is hosting their annual Treefort Music Festival where over 400 bands within Treasure Valley or as far as Western Europe, the Middle East, and Australia have come. Along with the festival, you can explore their collection of “fort” experiences ranging from comedy, films, performance art, tech, yoga, food+brews and more!

Located in the Four Seasons downtown with a view of the Seattle Great Wheel and Elliot Bay, Goldfinch Tavern has a prime location. The atmosphere is classy and ideal for date night or an intimate dinner with friends and family. In our experience, hotel restaurants can be hit or miss, but we came with slightly higher expectations since Goldfinch is a partnership with Ethan Stowell restaurants complimented by Four Seasons service.
