The forecast is calling for rain—and possibly some snow showers—for the next 15 days. Whether you’re a native Seattleite or a transplant, you’ve probably learned that you need some serious inner happiness (and maybe the assistance of a happy light and vitamin D) to get through Seattle’s soggy winters. Another strategy is to plan warm-weather getaways while we less than patiently await Seattle’s gorgeous summers.
Q + A with a Riveting Musical Duo
In truth, March to May, a Seattle-based folk-pop pair, defies all genre descriptions. Singer-songwriters Darren Guyaz and Beth Wesche brilliantly overlay harp and guitar with rich vocal harmonies, haunting lyrics and riveting melodies. The result? A unique sound that has received flattering comparisons to the likes of Swell Season, Damien Rice and the Civil Wars.
Rum has earned a bad rap as the drink of pirates and the base of fruity cocktail drinks. While that is totally true, there is so much more to this versatile spirit than Mai Tais and Grog! The chicas y hombres at La Isla are more than happy to introduce you to some of the finest rums, rum cocktails, and food pairings. Each month, the staff excitedly dedicate a themed night to do just that, with small plates designed around rums and cocktails.

I still remember anxiously going to bed and waking up early to peek outside to see if snow had really fallen (per Seattle forecast—often wrong) and if school would be cancelled. I’d turn on the TV and watch as the schools scrolled by—would we have a delay or even better—would we get a snow day?! This mix of anticipation and joy is something that we don’t get as often anymore… until today!
Having great hair can make any day better.
If you’re not familiar, “blowouts” are simple treatments that include a wash and style. Stylists can make your hair wavy, voluminous, or straight. Blow dry bars in Seattle haven’t caught on the way they have in Los Angeles and New York and we’re not sure why—it is a lovely experience having someone wash, dry, and style your hair. At 30% of what a haircut would cost, it leaves you feeling glamorous with event-ready hair that you didn’t have to do yourself!

We came for brunch on a chilly Saturday morning, about 15 minutes after they opened. No reservations were needed at 10:15 am, but by 11:30 am, it had started to fill up.
