Every year, I make a list of things I want to learn. This year, my list included gardening, calligraphy, and salsa dancing. I’ve ticked the first two off the list, but haven’t signed up for dance classes yet. It’s often difficult to find the time to learn something new, especially if you need to commit to several weeks or months. However, there are many classes and workshops that are just a few hours long that give you a little intro. Here are some of our favorites we think are worth checking out.
“Ascend to the city’s highest peak…no hiking boots required. Stretch your imagination, change your outlook, get a new perspective.”, says the official website for the Sky View Observatory, which stands proud on the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center. It is not just the tallest public-viewing tower in Seattle, but the whole of the Pacific Northwest.
Summertime and the Seattle livin’ is easy (+ delicious).
Aside from all the obvious reasons the PNW shines at this time of year, we’re thrilled to constantly discover new reasons to celebrate. Here are some ways to treat your body, soul and palate, too.
On June 30th, Elysian brewing hosted their second annual Search Party at Seattle Center. The party is a celebration of music, beer, and community in Seattle. 100% of the proceeds go to The Vera Project, an all-ages, volunteer-fueled music and arts venue at Seattle Center.
It’s wedding season again! Every year, the majority of weddings cluster in late spring to early fall. For those who struggle while all your friends are getting married, you can find laughter and solace in this great tumblr. And for those getting married, it seems more and more common that newlyweds are choosing to delay their honeymoon until later in the year or even the following year.
Murky, thrilling, violent, abusive and psychotic; ‘Sharp Objects’ based on the book by author Gillian Flynn of Gone girl fame is all of this and more. All the typical trappings of a good mystery are there.
I’m always on the lookout for the best patio in Seattle. While I tend to avoid hotel restaurants—a somewhat unfounded bias I can’t seem to drop—I had to check out the new lakefront kitchen and bar boasting the best Lake Washington waterfront dining and cocktails.
Spirit tasting through the state.
Now in its 6th year, PROOF — The Washington Distillers Festival, will return for a one-of-its-kind tasting event on Saturday, July 7th. The event is happening for the fourth year in Seattle’s Fremont Studios.
For me, June began on an extremely sad note. First, we lost the iconic fashion designer Kate Spade. A couple days later, Anthony Bourdain, beloved chef and storyteller extraordinaire was found dead in his hotel room. There was an outpouring of grief from all over the world.
Head to Wallingford to explore wine two at a time
I had just finished reading Cork Dork and was feeling confident in my ability to taste wine like a pro last week when we visited Claret Wine Bar in Wallingford, the newest member of the Purple Cafe and Thackeray restaurant family. I had no reason to feel confident – I love wine and know which wines I like and which I don’t (Sorry white wine, you’ll never be a red. You’re dead to me), but I’m no expert.
