In the Seattle burger scene, the bacon definitely rises to the top. With the closing of the highly regarded Counter in Ballard, it goes to show, if you’re going to cook it up in Seattle, it better be good, which is why I was surprised when a friend, a true Red Mill loyalist, invited me to Capitol Hill’s newest meat and cheese joint, 8 oz. Burger Bar.
Lucky 8s China House has only been open for a few months, but the food and service is impressive. They offer traditional Americanized Chinese food, including pork bao, chow mein and spring rolls at a low price. The lunch menu allows you to choose three dishes from a menu of nine for only $8
What’s better than a meld of Korean and Hawaiian cuisine on the cheap? When it’s on wheels all over Seattle. Marination has a station on top of the QFC in Capitol Hill and a food truck in a different neighborhood every day of the week but Sunday.
Sometimes 21 meals in a week just isn’t enough to try all the new restaurants Seattle has to offer. That’s why we’ve compiled a manageable must-visit list. In no particular order, here’s a trifecta of new bars and eateries to try now.
Sitting at the bottom of Capitol Hill is Saley, a charming and funky crepe restaurant with both sweet and savory treats, and a selection of baguette sandwiches. I instantly felt welcome when I walked into the café as I was greeted by a smiling woman making crepes.
8 oz. Burger Bar serves up salivating burgers in their new location on the corner of Broadway and Union. Seattleites can enjoy this California import’s lineup of grilled fare, as well as seasonal salads, sandwiches and a long list of crave worthy sides.
Isn’t it always nice when parents say, “Listen, my occupation has givin me and this family a lovely life. That being said, I do not want this for you.” Lucky for us, Mari Tiscareno Lee and husband, Walter, didn’t listen, so after years of service in a law firm and the military respectfully, opened Chinos this winter, following their parental sets into the volatile world of restaurants.
