Celebrating its 5th birthday last weekend, this year’s Feast Portland was the best one yet. Minus a little rain on Saturday, it was another successful food & wine festival. If you haven’t been, you should mark your calendar for next May when tickets go on sale—it’s not to be missed. A few of the Seattleite staff writers took a road trip down to Portland and enjoyed a weekend of glorious feasting. There’s some amazing talent in Portland and they are making innovative and delicious food. 

A new season and a new venue for the 8th annual Voracious.

Thursday, October 6th will be a night of celebrating the amazing culinary talent in Seattle. Voracious Tasting & Food Awards will be full of delicious bites, craft beer, craft spirit cocktail tastings along with wine samples that help define our region. They’ve invited some of the hottest restaurants, food trucks and cocktail masters for a night like no other. There will also be an open bar featuring Washington wine & beer. Get ready, get hungry and get your tickets.

A local nonprofit strives to help cure childhood cancer.

When cancer rocked the lives of Gail Lopez’s family, she decided to take action by starting G1ve a Buck Fund, an incredible nonprofit that raises awareness and much-needed funds for childhood cancer research. Somehow, current research is outdated by 20-plus years, and this organization aims to fight every hurdle to help save the lives of little superheroes near and far.

Help animals by drinking beer!

If your favorite way to drink beer is with a side of philanthropy, we have great news for you! Ghostfish Brewing and Emerald City Pet Rescue (ECPR) have come together to create Rescue Remedy Pacific Ale, a special beer project to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of ECPR, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected animals.

Chef Sam Choy, the proclaimed God Father of Poke, has made his fame traveling the world educating people on this wonderful dish. Thanks to the influence of Chef Choy, there are many variations of this dish today. He has inspired many chefs to create their own take on this Hawaiian classic. Hosted by Chef Sam Choy and partner Max Heigh, The Seattle Poke Contest shines light on many of these great chefs in a fun competition.

San Francisco-based Lolli & Pops opens a new store in Bellevue.

Lolli & Pops showcases unique sweets from all over the world, including chocolate from Madagascar, sour belts from Spain, and sodas from Japan, sourced from famed producers and local artisans, changing daily with batch size and availability. The new store is now open and located on the first floor next to the Ben & Jerry’s and across from McDonalds.
