Victoria is so much more than the last time you visited as a kid. Now, there’s gourmet food and desserts to taste, festivals and museums to enjoy, and an abundance of outdoor activities to explore. Our hotel, Magnolia Hotel & Spa, suggested Olo and we weren’t disappointed. Olo is doing things right and was a delightful dining experience. Executive Chef & Co-Owner Brad Holmes buys farm-fresh ingredients from producers on Vancouver Island. He understands the importance of sourcing locally and pushes the envelope by bringing seasonal and regional ingredients to Olo’s menu.

One Saturday a month, volunteer with old and new friends

Team Works is a volunteer group that sends volunteers out into the community one Saturday a month for four months, from September to December. Registration for fall session opened earlier this month, on August 17th. Team Works is a social volunteering league that gets you and your friends out into the community giving back and doing good—and yes, you have fun too. Volunteer sessions last from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. You’ll be finished in time to enjoy a late brunch!

Victoria is lovely year round. When I visited last December, I enjoyed all the holiday festivities, but I wondered what it would be like when the weather was nicer. It was a bit too soggy and grey to explore as much as I would have liked. Summer though? Wow. I returned this past weekend and I’m in love. We biked, we strolled, we browsed, and we ate. It was the perfect weekend getaway.

Now in its third year, Belltown’s popular summer wine and beer festival, Belltown Crush Party, has grown to take up two whole blocks! The event features a pig roast from Seattleite favorite Bell & Whete, local food trucks, live music (how often do you get to hear a steel drum band?) provided by Belltown Beats, and a great selection of wine and beer. To top it all off, they’ll be hosting a grape stomping competition! This will be the perfect way to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon on August 28th, celebrating the Belltown community and supporting a good cause.

Over the past 119 years, Seattle-based Filson has worked with many significant industries and organizations, but one of its most cherished relationships has been with men and women who work in the woods. They have outfitted timber cruisers in the early 1900s and providing standard-issue uniforms for the U.S. Forest Service in the 1940s. This season, Filson celebrates this relationship with the introduction of a special line of limited edition products to help spread the message of one of its favorite outdoorsmen: Smokey Bear.
