Want to support Washington state spirits, but don’t know where to start? PROOF is the Washington Distillers Guild’s flagship annual event happening today! It features more than 40 of the state’s distilleries in collaboration with 15 local restaurants and food purveyors for savory bites and sweet treats. Here you will find a sampling of Washington’s up and coming, as well as established, distilleries proudly displayed by the fine crafts folk who made them. If you find something you really like, you’ll be able to purchase it directly from the distillery table!
Tom Douglas and his flagship restaurant Dahlia Lounge are excited to announce that tickets are now available for the 2016 Lawn Party & Croquet Tournament. In its fifth year, this event is open to the public and will be held on Sunday, August 14 at the South Lake Union Discovery Center. A benefit for Food Lifeline, this year’s event looks to surpass last year’s fundraising goal of $100,000. With support from generous sponsors and from croquet teams and spectator tickets, the event hopes to raise over $150,000.
As we enter summer—though it doesn’t quite feel or look like it this week—in the Northwest, it’s a great time to refresh and rejuvenate your skin. Megan Sevcik opened Honey Skin Spa in 2011, a boutique skin spa located in Madison Valley that focuses on creating beautiful skin for men and women of all ages and skin types. From those who have battled awful adult acne to rosacea and broken capillaries, to fine lines and large pores, she handles it all with care and passion.
Every first Thursday of each month all year, Seattle (and the surrounding area) celebrates art and history by offering free admission! Who doesn’t like doing things for free? Here’s a list that you can check out this Thursday, July 7th or next month on Thursday, August 4th, or every month after that. The Museum of Glass in Tacoma (worth the drive) is free the third Thursday of the month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Late spring is on its way and we’re well on our way to summer. Maybe I’ve said this every year and I’ll say it again—this year has really flown by! Here’s a guide to some of my favorite hikes in the North Bend / Snoqualmie region, about 40 minutes east on I-90 from Seattle.
The two-day, all ages and free The Ballard SeafoodFest began in 1974 as a community celebration of Ballard’s historic connection to the fishing industry and the neighborhood’s Nordic roots. Today, this festival attracts over 65,000 people who come to enjoy the traditional salmon barbecue and much more: local music, arts and crafts, family entertainment, a beer garden, a skate event, and yes – more seafood! The event is Saturday, July 9: 11:00 am – 10:00 pm and Sunday, July 10: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.
Feast on the bounty of the season.
If you live in Seattle, you know that the arrival of certain coveted items can make headlines, sending food lovers into an excited tizzy. In May, for example, city-wide restaurants and vendors (like Pure Food Fish Market in Pike Place) released announcements heralding the much-anticipated arrival of Wild Alaskan Copper River Salmon. (Fun fact: Alaska is the source of nearly 60% of the seafood harvested in America, including 90% of its wild salmon.)
It’s more than halfway through the week and it’s time to start planning your weekend. Here are our top picks! Happy first weekend of the summer!
Having lived in the Seattle area my entire life and because eating is one of my favourite hobbies, I have eaten at most of the restaurants around here. I can usually come up with a few recommendations for each cuisine and neighborhood fairly easily—with one exception: seafood.
